What pharmaceutical regulatory compliance covers

Pharmaceutical regulatory compliance is everything a drug company must do to keep its products lawfully on the market: make them correctly, report safety problems, promote them truthfully, track them through the supply chain and disclose financial relationships. Each area has its own rules, regulators and enforcement tools, and a gap in any one can halt a product or a company.

Enforcement intensity rose sharply in 2025. Reed Smith counted 327 FDA warning letters from July 1 to December 3, 2025, “a 73% increase over the same period in 2024,” and reported that “The drug industry recorded 82 more warning letters compared to the prior year” (Reed Smith).

Promotion is a new front. On September 9, 2025, FDA and HHS announced “sweeping reforms to rein in misleading direct-to-consumer pharmaceutical advertisements,” sent a templated letter to thousands of companies and about 100 cease-and-desist letters, and said FDA would begin rulemaking on the “adequate provision loophole” for broadcast ads (King & Spalding).

Manufacturing remains the largest source of citations: the top FY2025 drug observation was quality unit procedures, with 243 citations (GMP Insiders).

Building a compliance program that holds up

  1. Map obligations by product, site and market, with an owner for each.
  2. Write procedures that reflect actual practice and current rules.
  3. Train by role, with records.
  4. Monitor and audit: GMP self-inspections, promotional review, safety reporting timeliness, Open Payments data quality.
  5. Investigate and correct through deviation, complaint and CAPA processes.
  6. Track regulatory change and update procedures promptly; 2025 and 2026 brought changes in advertising, GCP, DSCSA and trade.
  7. Report to leadership with metrics and resources for gaps.

Check compliance documents against current rules

When rules change in several areas at once, procedures fall behind. AskDona reviews SOPs, promotional review procedures, safety reporting procedures and quality agreements against FDA regulations, guidance or your own standards, flags outdated or missing requirements, and cites the passage behind every finding.

Run a sample compliance document assessment on one procedure set. AskDona shows the evidence; your compliance team decides.
